“This project is a collection of three stories in the form of a cartonera. Cartoneras have been a way to spread movements, poems, and other literature throughout Latin America. My cartonera reflects my experiences growing up as Latina and Filipina in a predominately white city and the struggles of pursuing a career in the arts without the approval of my parents. These stories have been hard to write, reflecting on my past, the present and sharing these intimate moments of not only my life but my parents too have made me grow as a person. I’m not the only one that grew up with these experiences and it’s important to voice and share personal stories inside and outside the Latin community. It shows others that they’re not alone in their situation and any story by a Latinx should be heard and shared.” – Angelina Simpoo; Sophomore; Cinema Studies Major
