The Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies (CLLAS) and the Latin American Studies Program present the third lecture in the 2014 Transnational Americas Speaker Series
A Lecture by Wendy Vogt
Each year hundreds of thousands of Central American migrants travel clandestine routes across Mexico where they risk abuse, injury, extortion, kidnapping and death. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork conducted in humanitarian aid shelters and transit points, this talk explores the journeys traversed by migrants as they negotiate their movements and their lives. The migrant journey has become a site of intense violence and profit-making as well as social struggle and solidarity.
Wendy Vogt is an assistant professor in the Department of Anthropology at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis.
