Américas Research Interest Group presents Lauren Heidbrink
Lauren Heidbrink is an anthropologist and has a joint appointment as assistant professor in the Social and Behavioral Sciences and Public Policy at National Louis University in Chicago, Illinois. She received a doctorate in anthropology from Johns Hopkins University, joint master of arts and master of science in International Public Service Management from DePaul University, and a Bachelors in City Planning, Latin American Studies, and Spanish Literature from the University of Virginia. Her research and teaching interests include childhood and youth, transnational migration, performance and identity, law at the margins of the state and Latin America. She has a forthcoming ethnography entitled, Migrant Youth, Transnational Families, and the State: Care and Contested Interests (University of Pennsylvania Press, May 2014). Selections of her work also appear in Children’s Legal Rights Journal (Spring 2013); Transnational Migration, Gender and Rights (2012); and in Emerging Perspectives on Children in Migratory Circumstances (2010). She is the past recipient of grants from Wenner Gren Foundation and National Science Foundation.
