- BRICEIDA CUEVAS COB: Mayan and Spanish Bilingual Poetry Reading* Tuesday, November 8, 4:00 PM
Knight Library Browsing Room— Briceida Cuevas Cob (1969) is a Mayan poet from Tepakán, Calkiní, Campeche, México. She has published several poetry books, U yok’ol awat peek’ (El quejido del perro / The dog’s moan) (1995), Je’ bix k’iin (Como el sol / Like The Sun) (1998), Ti’ u billil in nook’ (Del dobladillo de mi ropa / From My Clothes’ Hem) (2008). Her poems have been translated into French, Dutch, English and Italian. She is a founding member of the Mexican Association of Writers of Indigenous Languages. - ANA ROSSETTI Spanish Poetry Reading* Tuesday, November 15, 4:00 PM Gumwood Room, Erb Memorial Union—Ana Rossetti is a Spanish poet from Cádiz, who has published more than thirty books of poetry, narrative, and children’s literature. Among her most famous poetry books, we find Los devaneos de Erato (Premio Gules, 1980), Indicios vehementes (1985), Yesterdays (1988), and Punto Umbrío (1996). For her book Devocionario, she received The III International Poetry Prize, Rey Juan Carlos I.
- ROSA CHÁVEZ Mayan and Spanish Bilingual Poetry Reading* Thursday, December 1, 4:00 PM Knight Library Browsing Room— Rosa Chávez (1980) is a Guatemalan poet of Maya K’iche’ origin. Among her books of poetry, we find Casa solitaria (2005), Piedra abaj’ (2009), El corazón de la piedra (2010), and Quitapenas (2010). She is currently studying cinema and television in Casa Comal and participates as part of the Mayan Artists’ Movement, Ri Akux Nikotzijan. Her work has been published in many journals and anthologies of poetry throughout the United States and Latin America. She has been invited to a number of poetry readings across the Americas and Europe.
- URAYOÁN NOEL: Spanish, English, and Spanglish Multilingual Poetry Reading* Thursday, October 13, 4:00 PM Gerlinger Lounge—Urayoán Noel (1976) is a Puerto Rican author of the books Hi-Density Politics (2010),Boringkén (El Nuevo Día Book of the Year, 2008), and Kool Logic/La lógica kool(2005), and the poetry performance DVD Kool Logic Sessions (2005). He is currently an assistant professor of English at the University of Albany, SUNY, as well as a Ford Foundation postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies and a 2011-2012 Bronx Council on the Arts Fellow in Poetry
* Poetry readings in languages other than English will have simultaneous translation and pamphlets with English versions of the poems will be distributed.
