Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich + Fussible (Full Band)

Events related to visit:

  • University of Oregon public screening of documentary film Tijuana: Sonidos del Nortec and Q&A with Nortec Collective band members; social events and meetings with interested students and/or faculty (free and open to UO community and public) (Friday, November 22).
  • Live musical performance by Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich + Fussible (full band) at the McDonald Theatre in downtown Eugene ($10 admission and open to UO community and to public) (Saturday, November 23).

Description: Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich + Fussible is a band from Tijuana, Mexico. Their sound genre mixes electronica with musical elements and instrumentation from regional Mexican music (Tambora and Norteño), resulting in the nortec (“norteño” + “techno”) style. They have been nominated for two Latin Grammys and their 2008 album Tijuana Sound Machine was nominated for “Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album” at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. They have been the subject of a documentary film titled, Tijuana: Sonidos del Norte and featured in four books, most notably, Paso del Nortec: This is Tijuana and Nor-tec Rifa!: Electronic Dance Music from Tijuana to the World. They have toured Latin America, Japan, Europe, and the U.S. including shows at Rockefeller Center in New York City, Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Royal Festival Hall in London, and Elysée Montmarte in Paris. They have also performed on college campuses such as UC Davis and Cal State Los Angeles. The November 23, 2013 show in Eugene will mark the first time the full band will perform in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

Audience: Given the eclectic nature of the music of Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich + Fussible and their use of multimedia in their live performances, the band’s visit to the UO and to Eugene will have a very broad appeal. Their image, message, and style is very much influenced by life on the U.S./Mexico border region and their music and live performances are audiovisual representations to the world of what life is like on the borderlands of Tijuana/San Diego. The group consists of two electronic/visual DJs (Ramón Amezcua aka Bostich + Pepe Mogt aka Fussible) and four band members (accordion, six string electric bass, trumpet, and tuba).
