About CLLAS

The Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies (CLLAS) at University of Oregon fosters student and faculty research initiatives that focus on Latino/a/x and Latin American issues across Oregon, the U.S., Latin America, and beyond.

Our mission is to facilitate interdisciplinary research, scholarship, intellectual community, and community outreach focused on Latin America and U.S. Latinx populations. We aim to integrate teaching, research, community engagement, and dissemination to promote a deeper understanding of these communities and their contributions.

Since our founding in 2007, we have organized numerous events, workshops, and projects that explore the diverse experiences and perspectives of Latinx and Latin American communities. Our Research Action Projects (RAPs) bring together scholars, students, and community members to work on projects related to Afro-Descendent and Indigenous Peoples, Human Rights and Social Memory, Latino History, and Latino Equity.

We have also hosted visiting scholars and postdoctoral scholars who contribute to our research and teaching missions. Our partnerships with various departments and programs across the University of Oregon and beyond enable us to engage in innovative and collaborative research that benefits both academia and the broader community.
